Common mistakes when booking a Skip

Will my skip fit on my drive? What can I put in my skip? Do I need a license? What size skip will I need? Just a few of the most frequently asked questions by our customers! We understand that booking a skip for the first time can be a little daunting, which is why we have put together some top tips to help you avoid making those common mistakes!

  1. Filling Skips with the wrong type of waste

As a rule, you can put most general mixed household/garden waste in your skip, including soil/stone and other materials. However, here are a few tips to remember:

  • If you are putting soil and stone into a skip then the maximum size skip you can order is an 8 yard (which will hold 8 tonnes of waste).
  • We don’t accept hazardous materials as this requires a specialised license. Extra charges will be applied if these items are found in your skip!
  • There are also items that we do accept, but which will incur an extra charge, such as fridges and freezers! It’s best to have a quick read through our FAQ’s for more information on this.
  1. Choosing the wrong size skip

Our customers often find it difficult to translate the volume of waste they have into a specific size skip. Here’s some advice from our booking team.

‘Always order the largest size skip you can afford, trust us it will get filled! Generally, a 6 yd standard builders skip is a good place to start. These are the ones that you will often see by the side of the road and are good for general household/garden clearances and renovations/extensions etc. If you need more advice we have a great Skip Size guide on our website or you can call us on 0117 9865275.’

  1. Assuming we don’t offer Same Day Delivery in Bristol and Bath

Unlike most companies, where ever possible we offer same day & next day skip deliveries. Call our booking team or take a look at our Same Day Delivery Page for more information.

  1. A skip won’t fit on my drive/ I don’t have anywhere for it to go

No problem, you can request a permit from the council for your skip to be placed on the road, or we can do it for you. We usually allow 5-7 working days for this to be approved and will do all the paperwork for you. These permits last for 28 days starting from when the skip was dropped. Permits cost £65 in Bristol City Council, Banes, and South Gloucestershire (we charge a £10 admin fee + VAT to book this for you).

These are just a few of our top tip’s. For more information take a look at our FAQ’s for a comprehensive guide about how to order a skip, or call our friendly booking team for specific advice 0117 9865 275!
