How high can I fill the skip?

In order for safe transport the loads within all skips must be level. The DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) state that loose loads must be ‘sheeted or covered properly’. All of our Lorries have Auto Sheets (or Skip Nets) fitted so the driver can secure the load within the skip.

Some people use pieces of timber as an extension to the sides of the skip so they can load the skip up with more contents. This is dangerous for a couple of reason. Firstly, it is not secure at all and does not comply with our ‘level loads only’ rule. Secondly, if it is done with a large skip (6 yard and over) then it is very likely the skip will be over weight and therefore we can’t take it away because the vehicle will be over weight.

Ultimately the DVSA don’t explicitly say we can’t travel with skips that don’t have level loads so we say that it is entirely up to the discretion of the driver. The driver can be fined instead of or as well as the company. And on top of that they can get points and potentially lose their license.
